V5S final project – Visions of the other creatures

Final visualization – What do other creatures see the world.

March, 2010 / I add here a captured movie to help people’s understanding. However, the code and data, which had been used here are very rough and not necessarily displaying scientifically accurate results.

(since the processing webcam library doesn’t work in browsers, I put those captured images for documentation)

1) human vision

- when application starts, it shows up human eye vision which is general view of web camera.

2)Fish’s vision

- It is generally known that fish can only see brightness, however, after the research, some species of fish can recongnize colors as much as human and some of them even have ultraviolet vision.

this visualization is simulating how fish see the world. I picked one data documents about  a fish and restricted colors variations within the data.

3)Bee’s vision

- they can see ultraviolet range but they cannot recognize Red color spectrum. so I removed Red colors and emphasized blue hue levels for simulating ultraviolet range. The pixelized images also represents their eye structures.

4) Sneak’s view

- they actually barely see the objects, but they have extremely high sensitive in motion detections. so I manipulated pixels by comparing current frames with prior frames. Saturated colors were used for representing sneak’s color blindness.

Snake's vision

5) Bird’s view

- actually, birds can see almost everything what human see. even wider range of visible spectrums like a infrared area. I manipulated and restricted certain color areas instead of emphasizing diverse color ranges. I think this reflects bird’s high sensitive visions somehow.

6) Dog’s vision

- It is generally known that dogs cannot see colors but recent researches show that they can see very narrow range of colors from yellow to green. Though they cannot see red area nor seeing things in dark area, they can distinguish yellow and green areas.
